Description

Thunderbird headdress, carved and joined in four sections around a cloth-covered inner band. The bird face has a protruding, curved beak and two upright ears at the top. There are two wings on the sides, and a pentagonal tail piece covering the back. Colours are white, orange, black, red, green and brown.

Narrative

The headdress was one of Willie Seaweed’s last carvings, made in 1949. A film called "Blunden Harbour" (R. Gardner, 1951) shows Willie Seaweed painting this headdress.
