Description

Orange-brown clay pot, glazed fully inside, and on the upper half of the outer surface, with a thick, shiny, deep orange-brown glaze that has been fired to leave drip marks all around lower edge. Four incised horizontal rings just below slightly flared lip. Small spout extends near outer base. Maker's inscription on bottom.

History Of Use

Fresh milk is poured into the pitcher, and after the high-fat cream rises to the top, the low fat milk is drained through the spout near the bottom of the pitcher.

Narrative

This cream pitcher was donated to MOA following the visit of Republic of Latvia President, Valdis Zatlers, at the time of the Vancouver 2010 Olympics. During his visit, President Zatlers noted his desire to see an example of Latvia's famous ceramics added to the Museum's collection.
