Description

Painting showing the Madonna and Child. Mary stands in the centre of the painting, wearing a white head scarf that falls to her shoulders and partially covers her long brown hair. A large crown is on her head. She wears a long green dress covered by a red cloak decorated with flowers, which flares widely toward the bottom and has lacy cuffs and collar. In her right hand she holds a lit candle, and in her left she carries a baby (Jesus) who also wears a crown and a similar decorated and voluminous cloak. His hands are held together in front of his chest in a position of prayer. Mary is surrounded below her feet and on both sides by cherubim, some flying, others holding musical instruments. At the lower left a hooded woman with flowers in her hands and on her head prays. To the lower right is a bearded, praying man. Both are dressed simply and appear sombre.
