King Mask Item Number: 2946/2 from the MOA: University of British Columbia
Description
Moreno king mask, with a silver crown and gold pipe. The blue eyes are framed by spiky eyelashes which fade from orange at the base to yellow, green and blue at the tips. The thick, furrowed eyebrows are dark blue. At the top of the forehead there are two flame-shaped projections which curl back towards the crown. The ears are green on the inside and have seven yellow and red flame-like points around the outside. The tips of the flames, the eyebrows, the wrinkles around the eyes, the chin and the front of the crown are decorated with silver glitter.
History Of Use
Moreno king mask; worn for the Morenada dance, performed during the Virgin of Candelaria feast days.
