Comb Item Number: 2878/32 from the MOA: University of British Columbia

Description

Rectangular comb with handle carved from a single piece of brown wood. The handle is carved to depict a peacock, with features and feather patterns incised on both sides, as well as three circles carved out along the tail, each with a smaller hole carved out in the centre. On both sides of the main body of the comb, beneath the peacock, there are 6 lines, a row of dots and then 6 more lines incised in the wood. There are three points of contact between the peacock and the body of the comb (the beak, the feet and the end of the tail), between which the wood has been carved out.
