Comb Item Number: 2878/33 from the MOA: University of British Columbia

Description

Comb with handle carved from a single piece of brown wood. The handle is carved to depict two elephant heads, facing away from each other, trunks down to form the outer edges of the handle. The features of the elephant heads are incised on both sides of the handle. On both sides of the main body of the comb, beneath the elephant heads, there are 5 lines, a row of dots and then 4 more lines incised in the wood. There are three points of contact between the elephant heads and the body of the comb (the midpoint body of the handle and the end of each trunk), between which the wood has been carved out.
