Description

Headdress formed of six small hamatsa masks--painted black, white and red--secured to a semicircular band of metal. Tufts of shredded cedar bark on top of heads. Wire ties attached at either end of the metal band.

History Of Use

"Hamatsa all around" headdress. Worn during ceremonial dances.

Narrative

Made for Jim Howard's daughter (D. Hawkins, 1966). Obtained from Gilford Island and brought there from Blunden Harbour for a marriage (Billy Sandy Willie, 1966).
