Ceremonial Paddle Item Number: 2948/8 from the MOA: University of British Columbia

Description

Wooden paddle carved from a single piece of dark brown wood. A human figure with a large head and a small body is carved on the grip. The figure is standing with knees slightly flexed and the feet resting on the shaft. The spaces between the arms and legs are hollowed out. The hairline, eyes, ears, nose, mouth and chest are carved with detail. The figure has an angular nose and a prominent chin. Circular designs are carved on both ends of the shaft and on the top of the blade, on both sides. The tip is slightly curved with a pointed end.
