Description

Bowl is made of clay, with an uneven pedestal base that flares at bottom and narrows toward bowl. Bowl is round, widening toward the mouth, with a thinner rim. Rim lowers at one point to create a spout. A large The exterior of the bowl is coloured an orange red, with the inside a bright vibrant pink. A spot of pig’s blood can be seen on the interior base.

Spirit bowl used to collect pig’s blood.

Narrative

Donor obtained the bowl in 1973, near Mount Giluwe in the Southern Highlands.
