Harpoon Item Number: A7475 from the MOA: University of British Columbia
Long, wooden, carved harpoon with a V-shaped, killer whale tail painted black with white and red edging on top. The cylindrical shaped base is painted red with a black bottom and a large metal spike protruding out.
Used at potlatches to "destroy" property displayed before distribution. By this gesture, chief indicates that his property is of no value to him and may be salvaged or picked up by any one (G. Glendale, 1974).
