Pipe Item Number: 3013/2 a-b from the MOA: University of British Columbia
Description
Stone pipe with a wooden stem (part a), long and rectangular, with rounded, narrowing tenon, and lip with bore. The tenon fits into the mortise on the shank. Pipe head (part b) is made of red catlinite stone and is undecorated. Shank is long, closed at distal end. From its middle protrudes the cylindrical bowl with chamber.
Narrative
Presented to George A. Dodds while he was the Indian Agent in File Hills, Saskatchewan c. 1939. Dodds was made an honorary chief by the Okanese Band (now part of the File Hills Qu’Appelle Tribal Council) on July 1, 1939, during the File Hills sporting day events. This pipe may have been associated with that presentation event.
