Description

Beaded belt is completely covered in small glass beads on the front, with a light blue background and regular patterns of triangles, diamonds and lines in dark blue, red and pink interspersed across the surface. The back of the belt is raw leather. At each end of the belt are two ties used to connect it around the waist.

Narrative

Presented to George A. Dodds while he was the Indian Agent in File Hills, Saskatchewan c. 1939. Dodds was made an honorary chief by the Okanese Band (now part of the File Hills Qu’Appelle Tribal Council) on July 1, 1939, during the File Hills sporting day events. This belt may have been associated with that presentation event.
