Description

Puppet of a male. The body is made of wood, with articulations at the neck, elbows, fingers, hips and knees. The mouth and eyes are also moveable. The puppet is dressed in a fabric costume, with a gold sarong, and red and blue tunic embroidered in white flowers on the torso, and coloured sequence sewn onto cuffs and hem. The puppet’s face is finely carved with protruding features, painted wrinkles, brows and lashes. Human hair has been used for his moustache and hair. Puppeteer’s strings are attached to the head, shoulders, hands and legs of the puppet.

History Of Use

Traditional Burmese puppet, from the Myanmar Ahmyint Thabin Puppet Theatre. The puppet represents U Whewi Yoe (Old Man). He is dressed in a country-style costume, made from traditional home spun cloth.
