Jar Item Number: 2990/85 from the MOA: University of British Columbia

Description

Terracotta oval-bodied jar with orange and cream slip decoration and a human head in relief on the neck of the slightly flared spout. The ears on the head form the top of a lug on either side of the neck. There are three animals in pressed relief in a row on each side of the body. Above and between the row of animals on each side there is an orange painted pattern of diamond and square shapes. There is a small area of repair on the base, as well as on the front of the body along a crack near the third animal figure.

Narrative

This jar reflects the developing regional Wari style of the Napena and nearby Casma Valley.
