Description

Wooden carving of Rama and Sita (from the Hindu epic the Ramayana). Sita is shown partially sitting in Rama’s lap, turning torso and head to look back at him. Both wear elaborate winged headdresses and embellished clothing with pointed shoulder decoration. The pair kneels on a base of wood carved as natural scenery, rocks, and the suggestion of mountains. The back of the sculpture is carved with less depth than the front and sides, and has fewer embellishments.
