History Of Use

Sto:lo basket maker and weaver Wendy Ritchie thought this basket might be for picking berries. A smaller basket, such as this one would be used for picking and emptied into a larger basket which would placed nearby.

Specific Techniques

The pink colour on the design elements of this basket is unusual and may have been achieved through the use of commercial dyes according to Sto:lo elder Elizabeth Herrling of Seabird Island. Wendy Ritchie, a Sto:lo weaver from Skowkale, thinks that it may have achieved by using berries.
