Description

White knotted cord; part of a wedding ensemble. The cord is made of shiny, synthetic fibres that are twisted together to make a smooth rope. The cord is knotted in the middle with two long loops on either side of the knot.

History Of Use

Traditional wedding cord, used in some Christian Catholic wedding ceremonies to symbolize the everlasting union of the bride and groom. During the wedding the cord is formed into a figure-eight shape, and placed loosely around the necks of both the bride and the groom, after they have made their wedding vows. Afterward the cord is typically kept by the bride as a wedding souvenir.

Narrative

Julia Mercado Gonzalez was married in this wedding ensemble to Dr. Miguel P. Tecson at St. Augustine church in Vancouver, December 1962. The set includes her dress, jacket, veil, gloves, shoes, cord, pillow and bouquet holder (3048/25-32).
