History Of Use

Blue-green abalone shell was traded up from the California coast, and was cut into various sizes to use as decoration on clothing, as jewellry and inlaid in wood and horn to enhance the carving (A. Hawthorn).

Mrs. Johnson just included this abalone shell in the objects she sent down to show the colours in these shells.
