Woman's Sarong Item Number: 3057/1 from the MOA: University of British Columbia
Description
Cotton sarong, tubular in construction with long ends sewn together. Garment is made of four pieces of fabric sewn together: a thin strip of unnbleached cotton is at one end, followed by a red stripe, then a wide centre panel of thin green and black stripes, and a strip of yellow embroidery covered by geomentirc designs in black, with green, pink and white embellishments. Small white and black motifs lead from the yellow area onto a red stripe which ends the piece.
Narrative
Sarong made by a weaver from the Wat Lai (temple) weaving school at Doi Tao (Turtle Mountain). The weavers go to Wat Phra Sing in Chang Mai City to sell their woven fabrics.
