Description

Wide flaring terracotta bowl, rounded gambrel, partially burnished surface. Painted and incised decoration. Exterior band with two feline faces and profile bodies (to right) flanking a frontal humanoid deity face. Feline has triangular eyes, reed stamp nose, and brow whisker with horizontal lines dotted at both ends on the sides. Feline body has double and single reed stamp circles, an "eye of god” motif between its legs and a downward curved tail. Deity has nose in relief, short mouth with teeth but no fangs, and stylized hair band. Vertical bands extend above and below deity's eyes. Arms are raised at sides. Panel with three reed stamp circles on the right end. At the centre of the red-brown interior is an incised vencejo (bird) panel. Orange-red and traces of white, black and yellow paints. An un-incised guilloche is painted in orange-red and white on the interspace. Moulded manufacture. Breakage repaired.
