Description

Ceremonial bark cloth tunic. The garment is long and rectangular, open on the sides, with a rounded neck and a small V at front. Front and back are painted in circular and geometric patterns and lines coloured red, blue, yellow and black. On the chest are decorative designs of blue and yellow feathers and strands of beads. Across the shoulders on the back is a panel of densely placed coloured feathers which is edged in seeds, with feathered tassels hanging from the bottom. Each side of the tunic has a toucan sewn to the lower half, facing down with heads and large beaks freely hanging, wings and tails widely splayed. The outer edges of the tunic are decorated with a line of brown and grey seeds, and dark brown feathers hang in small groupings from the bottom hem. The inside of the garment is undecorated.
