Description

Ceremonial bark cloth tunic. The garment is long and rectangular, open on the sides, neck is rounded with a small V at front. Front and back are painted in a variety of shapes and lines coloured red, yellow,dark brown and dark blue. On the chest are two decorative designs of blue, yellow and green feathers with strands of beads. Below is sewn a bird facing down with head and beak freely hanging, wings and tail widely splayed. A toucan is sewn to the back, upright with wings high and pointed behind the birds body and head. Below is a panel of densely placed coloured feathers which is edged in seeds, feathered tassels hanging from the bottom. The outer edges of the tunic are decorated with a line of brown and grey seeds, and large dark brown feathers hang in small groupings from the bottom hem. The inside of the garment is undecorated.
