Description

Byzantine coin of Phocas, 602-610. Obverse: Two rulers standing and facing front, both with crowns; Phocas is on the left, holding a globus cruciger; Empress Leontia, who has a halo, is on the right, holding a long cruciform sceptre; between their heads, there is a cross; the coin has been overstruck and includes a third figure who is partially on top of and to the right of Empress Leontia; this figure also has a halo and holds a long cruciform sceptre; to left, inscription is illegible; to right, it says ‘ERPAVC’. Reverse: large ‘XX’; above, cross; in exergue, ‘TES’.
