Description

Byzantine coin of Heraclius, 610-641. Obverse: two rulers standing and facing front; Heraclius is on the left, wearing military dress and crown with cross; Heraclius Constantine, his son, is on the right, wearing a crown with cross and holding a globus cruciger; between their heads, there are two crosses; to left, inscription says ‘ANNO’. Reverse: large ‘Λ’; beneath, ‘A’; in exergue, ‘[C]ON’. Coin has been overstruck on a previous coin of Heraclius, and it is difficult to determine what inscriptions and details on the obverse belong to which phase of the coin.
