Description
Byzantine coin of Heraclius, 610-641. Obverse: two rulers standing and facing front; Heraclius is on the left; Heraclius Constantine, his son, is on the right; each wears a crown with cross and holds a globus cruciger in their right hand; between their heads, there is a cross; to left, there is another cross; also to left, there is an illegible inscription; to right, there is another illegible inscription. Reverse: large ‘M’; to left, ‘ANNO’ in a vertical position; to right, ‘X’ and ‘NEPEAV’; above, cross; beneath, ‘Δ’; in exergue, ‘CON’. Coin has been overstruck, resulting in some confusion on both sides. It is unclear whether the inscriptions on the obverse belong to this coin or a previous coin. Likewise, the ‘X’ and ‘NEPEAV’ on the reverse are most likely from a previous coin.
