Description

Byzantine coin of the Revolt of Heraclius, 608-610. Obverse: two rulers standing and facing front; the future emperor, Heraclius, is on the left; the exarch of Carthage, Heraclius’ father, also named Heraclius, is on the right; both are bearded, wear consular robes, and also wear a crown with pendilia; there is a cross between their heads; to left, inscription says ‘DMN’; to right, it is illegible. Reverse: large ‘M’; to left, ‘ANN[O] in a vertical position; to right, ‘XIIII’ in a vertical position; above, cross; beneath, ‘A’; exergue is illegible, but most likely ‘AΛEXANΔ’.
