Description

Byzantine coin of Constans II, 641-668. Obverse: bust of Constans II, facing forwards; he wears a chlamys and a crown with a cross; to left, he holds a long staff topped with a cross; to right, he holds a globus cruciger; to left, inscription says ‘O’; to right, it is illegible. Reverse: large ‘M’; to left, ‘ANA’ in a vertical position; to right, ‘NEO’ or ‘NEOS’ in a vertical position; above, star; beneath, ‘ΔII’ or ‘ΔIII’. Coin has been overstruck, resulting in some confusion on both sides.
