Description

Byzantine coin of Constans II, 641-668. Obverse: bust of Constans II, facing forwards; he wears a chlamys and a crown with a cross; to left, he holds a long staff topped with a cross; to right, he holds a globus cruciger; to left, inscription is illegible; to right, it says ‘CONS…N’, although this is most likely from a previous coin. Reverse: large ‘M’; to left, ‘AN[A]’ in a vertical position; above, cross; to right, a sideways ‘M’ from a previous coin is still visible, also with a cross above it. Coin has been overstruck, causing confusion on both sides.
