Coin Item Number: 3095/1264 from the MOA: University of British Columbia

Description

Byzantine coin. Obverse: bust of an emperor, wearing a crown; to left, he is holding something, but it is difficult to decipher what it is. Reverse: large ‘K’; to right, ‘II’; beneath, ‘Γ’. Triangular shape and style of portrait means that this coin most likely belonged to an emperor from the late seventh or early eighth centuries CE. Collector’s envelope suggests it is from the second reign of Justinian II, 705-711. Coin has been overstruck.
