Description

Large format colour photograph of a scene showing three people processing a large collection of First Nations objects into lots, in preparation for an auction. The objects (mainly from the Northwest Coast, some from other First Nations groups) surround the table where the people are working on all sides. Many objects are on the floor, others are on shelves and some are on the table. The two men sit behind a long table, one with a laptop. A woman stands at the right of one man, also behind the table. Edition 1 of 3. Photograph is mounted in a large frame.

Archival dye pigment print (Epson K3 archival inks); Epson Premium Luster 260 g paper. Wood frame made in Italy; Coroplast backing; UV Plexiglas window.

Narrative

The framed photograph was exhibited at the Vancouver Art Gallery September 26, 2015 to January 31, 2016. The artist statement for the exhibition was: "Vancouver-based artist Christos Dikeakos considers the economic and cultural values involved in transactions of Northwest Coast art. This series of photographs produced over the last six years portrays collectors, entrepreneurs and artists captured in acts of assessment, exchange or contemplation of these evocative objects."
