Description

Man’s dark red vest, made of satin fabric that contains imprinted floral emblems. Square floral motifs in bright gold have been stamped along the hem and shoulders front and back, and at front centre. The vest is open at the front with an overlapping lapel edged in a dark blue that is topped with a strip of white. Garment is closed by a metal snap at the bottom of the lapel, and with two dark blue ribbons at front centre. At bottom side edges is a high slit, capped with braided fabric buttons. The interior of the vest is fully lined in red fabric.

Narrative

Donated by the Korean consul, to represent a man's traditional costume of pants, shirt and vest (3171/1-3). A woman's complete traditional costume was part of the same donation, consisting of under garments, skirt, jacket, socks, shoes and a norigae ornament (3171/4-10).
