Description

Byzantine coin from the 13th century. Obverse: the Archangel Michael, with a halo and wings; to left, he holds a spear or long cross. Reverse: three figures, standing and facing front; to left, most likely an emperor; in centre, Christ, who is taller than everyone else; to right, most likely a co-emperor or son; Christ has a nimbus cruciger around his head, which is a cross within a halo; to left, inscription says ‘IC’; to right, ‘XC’. Collector’s envelope says that this this coin belonged to Andronicus II, 1282-1328.
