Description

Byzantine coin of Andronicus II, 1282-1328. Obverse: two figures, standing and facing front; to left, Andronicus II; to right, Michael IX, his son and co-emperor; they both wear a loros, an embroidered and jewelled scarf; between them, they hold a labarum, which is a military standard. Reverse: large cross, with pellets in its four quadrants; in a circle around cross, there is an inscription of large letters; only one letter is legible, and it says ‘C’.
