Description

Byzantine coin from the Latin Rulers of Constantinople Period, 1204-1261. Obverse: a bust, facing front, with a halo; this is most likely Christ. Reverse: a figure, standing and facing front; he is probably an emperor; he wears a loros, which is an embroidered and jewelled scarf; to left, he holds something long in his hand; this is probably a long cross. Coin is concave.

Narrative

The Latin Rulers of Constantinople captured the city after the Fourth Crusade in 1204. They were driven out by the Byzantine Greeks in 1261.
