Description

Carved wooden figure, likely of St. Francis of Assisi. A male figure stands with hands clasped before him, holding a small bird. Birds also sit on his shoulders and on the top of his head. Nose and ears protrude while eyes, mouth, and beard are incised. He wears a long belted robe decorated with incised diamond shaped motifs. A carved hood falls over his shoulders at back, below an incised hair line. Large bare feet emerge from beneath his robe. Birds and feet are attached to the figure by wooden pegs.
