Figure Item Number: 3201/2 from the MOA: University of British Columbia

Description

Wire toy person riding a two-wheeled bicycle. Thick metal wire is used to make wheels, pedals and rear handle. Thinner wire is wrapped around the wheels and used for the bicycle handles and upper construction. Rider is made of a wire under-form, which is heavily wrapped with thin plastic in blue and white, creating the shape of a human. Figure grips the bike handles, and legs are bent at the knees to reach the pedals. When the bicycle is propelled forward by the handle the pedals move, causing the legs to pump up and down.

Narrative

Collected (by the donor) from children who were playing with it, in either Lesotho or Free State, South Africa, between 1984 and 1986. The long handle used to propel the toy was removed in South Africa.
