Moccasins Item Number: 3207/2 a-b from the MOA: University of British Columbia

Description

Pair of beaded moccasins. Shoes are made of hide with a wide ankle flap and ties at front. Upper is fully beaded with a blue panel on the toe housing squares of red and metallic beads, and a blue strip around the back of the heel. Around base of shoe is a strip of white beading with triangles in red, yellow and dark blue. Soles are hardened and worn.

Narrative

Given to the donor by Alvida Hansen, who was born in North Dakota in 1885. Ms. Hansen's father may have been an Indian Agent in the Dakotas in the late 1800s.
