Cuneiform Tablet Item Number: 3291/1 from the MOA: University of British Columbia
Description
Cuneiform tablet mounted inside an open wood frame, so that both sides are visible. One side appears to have ten rows of inscription; the other side appears to have seven rows. The frame is about the same thickness as the tablet and covers all four of its outer edges.
History Of Use
Legal contract; likely from the Seleucid period, possibly from Uruk?
Narrative
"OS 13" has been stamped in dark ink on one side. The donor said the tablet used to be owned by his wife's uncle, Bernd Schwassman, who moved to Montreal from Germany in 1950. The "OS 13" on the object suggests it may have been owned previously by Otto Schroder, who was an Assyriologist. Schroder worked in the Berlin museums, just after the turn of the century. The object was likely excavated sometime during the 1910-1920s era, in Iraq.
