Moccasins Item Number: D3.160 a-b from the MOA: University of British Columbia

Description

Pair of moccasins with multicoloured floral beading. Sewn around bottom and up heel. Different hide on top than on sole.

Narrative

Collected by the donor's grandmother who had lived in Winnipeg. The moccasins were listed as Ojibwa, and have Ojibwa style beadwork, but are not constructed in a typical Ojibwa style. Two piece moccasins with flat tops and soles are more typical of some Plains groups. Said to have been worn with D3.166 (dress), D3.147 a-b (leggings) and D3.143 (headband).
