Description

Model inter-island sailing canoe, with single-hull outrigger. Main hull is carved of a single piece of wood with attached forked end pieces at fore and aft. Hull is panted black with areas near top decoratively left unpainted. Several benches span the interior of the vessel. Detailed wood rigging with intricate, twisted cordage attaches main boat to outrigger float. A woven triangular sail is suspended between two posts, with a third attached by cordage, and can be balanced upright above the main hull. A large plant fibre tassel hangs from the top point. Part b is a 'canoe lee platform'; parts c-d are small benches that fit into spaces at fore and aft of main hull; part e is a rudder; parts f-j are five small paddles, three with leaf shaped blades.
