Cantonese Opera Robe Item Number: 3251/2 a-b from the MOA: University of British Columbia

Description

Robe is a vibrant pink, with long wide sleeves, and short water sleeves falling from each wrist. Collar stands upright, with lapel crossing over chest to tie at right side of torso under the arm. Decoration is thread embroidered flowers and foliage in dark green and blue embellished with translucent beads, applied around each wrist, on chest and neck, and both front and back across skirt. Interior of robe is lined in cotton. Stiff headdress (part b) is covered with the same fabric, and holds similar embroidery on front. Shape is squared with wide, scalloped rim at top that curls near the ears. Two long ties fall from the sides, each with an embroidered panel at bottom.
