Description

Two part dress, made of a long dress (part a) and an under-skirt (part b) with an open weave or lace fringe at the bottom. This terno is made of cream synthetic blend cotton with net and gold-coloured lace, gold-coloured thread, overlay on the neckline bib, hem, and the hem of the underskirt.

History Of Use

Yucatecan traditional terno (dress). This type of dress used to be made of plain natural cotton, but is now made of a synthetic cotton blend. They are always white or cream coloured. The bib around the neck is commonly embroidered, as is the hem. This terno closely resembles a wedding terno in that it has no coloured embroidery. It is cream and gold, embroidered with gold thread. This dress would be used by a woman celebrating her 50 year wedding anniversary. This tradition is being lost now that many women are getting married somewhat later.
