Description

Dark brown-red stone carving of a resting bird. Figure is attached to a rectangular base of the same stone. Incised lines on body imitate feathered wings, a mouth and eyes. Deeply carved border along top edge of base. Sides of base taper inward, before flaring out at bottom edge. Carving is unsigned.

Narrative

Inuit works 3467/1-8 were collected (as both gifts and puchases) by D.L. Stossel, who worked for Environment Canada in high Arctic weather stations in the 1960s.
