Description

Small square folded bag with woven strap, tied at apex. Three yellow, dark blue, dark pink and dark green double pompoms are attached to each lower corner and at centre. The edging on three sides is dark green. The central design is composed of a peyote flower pattern in light blue, dark pink and yellow on a green background. Strap is alternating sections of dark pink and dark green, with lines of light blue across; folded in half along length; ends stitched to upper corners of bag. There are two snap closures inside the bag.

Cultural Context

The Wixáritari are known to the larger world as the Huichol, however that is not the name they use to refer to themselves.

Collected by Dr. Hope MacLean while she was doing fieldwork with the Huichol, 1992-1995.
