Description
Square ceramic tile with floral motifs painted on front. Surface and sides are glazed. Two dark red lines act as a border, a wide band towards the edge and a much thinner one towards the centre. Central design of olive green, vine-like shapes forming a diamond. Eight arms extend from diamond, forming a cross and an “X” shape. The ends of the cross arms have blooming, dark red flowers. The ends of “X” shape arms are large dark red flowers surrounded by three olive green leaves. The leaves touch the corners of the tile. Small circle and large circular outline imprinted on back of tile. Inscription on back.
Specific Techniques
Tile was manufactured by dust-pressing, a technique that uses clay milled to a fine powder with low moisture content, then pressed in a die at high pressure. Design was printed onto the tile using two colours.
