Description

Wooden lion-like figure in a standing position. Animal is carved from multiple pieces of wood. Head and body are one piece; head and neck are painted red, body is dark green. Legs, tail and ears are separate; all components painted dark green. Legs are nailed to body. Ears and tail are inset and secured with glue. Eyes and mouth are incised, nose carved in low relief. Incisions are all painted black. Eyes are white, whiskers and nose done in black. Black wavy lines painted across top of head and neck, imitating a mane(?). Inner ears are painted green, with white lines along the outer edges. Black lines painted along front bottom edges of paws, imitating claws. White dashes decorate legs and body. Long white lines painted down centre of back, and across shoulders and rump. Lines form a large "I" shape across top of body. White wavy lines painted along length of tail.
