Description

Large wooden spoon with carved and metal decorations. Spoon is painted dark blue and has a deep bowl; alternating dots and vertical lines carved along edges of bowl. The neck has incised geometric and linear motifs across the front and back; handle consists of two sitting birds, bellies facing one another. They have short tails, wings carved in relief and long necks; heads are tilted up. Additional silver pin decorations across spoon. On the handle and neck, the pins highlight the existing designs. On the base of bowl, the pins form an arrow motif inside of an oval.

Used for ceremonies.

The donor taught in a rural school in Tobli, eastern Liberia, from 1965 to 1967.
