Kokeshi style doll. Cylinder compressed twice at waist, marked by purple bands. Red bands above and below. Four red brush strokes on yellow ground at base. Concentric circles at top of head. Eleven characters on base.
Kokeshi are simple wooden Japanese dolls crafted as toys for children. Originally from the northeastern region of Japan, they are handmade from wood, having a simple, round trunk and head, without arms or legs. They have been in use for at least 150 years.
