Kokeshi style; incised circle on base; shoulder profile irregular; cylinder concave; red and narrow green bands at top and base; wide yellow bands above and below waist two large red flowers at front; hair indicated by black loops and side tassels; fourteen characters on base.

History Of Use

Kokeshi are simple wooden Japanese dolls crafted as toys for children. Originally from the northeastern region of Japan, they are handmade from wood, having a simple, round trunk and head, without arms or legs. They have been in use for at least 150 years.
