Kokeshi style; incised circle on base; slight compression of cylinder at waist; purple bands with red above and below at waist; suggestion of yellow kimono; concentric circles on top of head red and green hair ornaments; surface highly polished. Twelve characters on base.

History Of Use

Kokeshi are simple wooden Japanese dolls crafted as toys for children. Originally from the northeastern region of Japan, they are handmade from wood, having a simple, round trunk and head, without arms or legs. They have been in use for at least 150 years.
